WEDOS Protection Review (2026): EU DDoS Shield & WAF Tested

We run our own infrastructure behind EU providers, so we had a genuine reason to test WEDOS Protection — the most direct European answer to “I want Cloudflare, but under EU jurisdiction.” Here’s what it does well, what it doesn’t, and who should use it.

What it is

A reverse-proxy security layer on a top-tier anycast network across the EU: traffic hits WEDOS’ edge first, attacks get filtered, clean requests reach your origin server. In scope:

• DDoS mitigation on L3, L4 and L7 — from raw volumetric floods to application-layer attacks
• WAF — filtering exploit attempts, bots and malicious payloads
• CDN cache — static assets (images, JS, CSS) served from the edge, with one-click purge
• TLS/SSL handling at the edge

Backing it: 100 % SLA, GDPR-native operation, ISO 9001 certification and membership in Allianz für Cyber-Sicherheit. Setup is the classic pattern — point your DNS at the shield and toggle features in the admin panel.

What we like

1. EU jurisdiction end-to-end. A Czech company on EU soil — no US CLOUD Act exposure. For public-sector suppliers and anyone with a serious DPA, this is the headline feature.
2. Covers the whole Cloudflare core. DDoS + WAF + CDN + DNS handling in one place; for a typical business site there’s no functional gap.
3. 100 % SLA. Bold, contractual, and rare in this price class.
4. Simple administration. Cache toggle, purge, protection modes — no PhD required.
5. Free trial — you can measure before you commit.
6. Hosting-agnostic, though it pairs naturally with VEDOS hosting if you want one European stack.

What could be better

1. EU-focused network. If most of your audience is in Asia or the Americas, Cloudflare’s edge density wins on latency.
2. No edge-compute platform. There is no Workers/Functions equivalent — this is a shield, not a serverless runtime.
3. Documentation depth. The knowledge base is solid but visibly grew out of Czech material; complex setups may need a support ticket (support is responsive, 24/7).

Who it’s for

• EU businesses with sovereignty requirements — the obvious fit (see also our NIS2 compliance checklist).
• E-shops and lead-gen sites that lose real money during downtime and attacks.
• Anyone leaving Cloudflare over pricing surprises or concentration concerns and wanting a one-afternoon migration.

Less suited: globally distributed audiences needing maximum edge density, or teams that build on Cloudflare Workers.

Verdict: 4.5/5

WEDOS Protection nails the job it promises: a European shield with L3–L7 mitigation, WAF and CDN, contractual 100 % SLA and painless setup. Weak spots (EU-centric edge, no serverless platform) are irrelevant for its core audience — European sites that want protection and sovereignty.
